Protection for Electrical Machines Training System
Squirrel-cage motors were designed to operate with constant loads. Load changes as well as high start-up currents lead to excessive overheating of the motor. Sensors are used to monitor the temperature and the motor current consumption. These activate protective devices such as motor circuit-breakers, protective relays or thermistor relays.
